Sustainability

London Metropolitan University is committed to sourcing ethical and sustainable merchandise and when we started to develop our range of merchandise for retail, we thought very carefully about what we wanted our products to say about us.

We source our University hoodies from AWDis, which is accredited with Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) Certification. WRAP is an independent, non-profit team dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education.

Our University T-shirts are Fair Share. This means they carry a Fair Share label and carry a small price premium which goes directly to the workers in India.

For every Newchurch shopper bag sold, 5% of its cost is donated to Plastic Oceans, whose mission is to stop plastic reaching the ocean. The bag is made from 100% recycled materials (70% recycled cotton/30% rPet).

The Broadstairs notebook is made from recycled kraft paper and has 100 recycled sheets. For every 300 notebooks sold, the manufacturer makes a donation to Trees for Cities so they can plant a tree.

We chose our bamboo set as a mid-range eco-friendly gift. Are you wondering why you should buy bamboo? Here are three facts you need to know about the sustainability of bamboo that explain why the natural material is eco-friendly:

• The production of bamboo fibres (used in promotional products) has a lower environmental impact than any other fibres, especially synthetic.

• Bamboo grows without pesticides or chemicals and does not need any irrigation.

• Because of the plant's natural rapid growth levels, it rarely needs replanting.
